HAITI CARNIVAL NO HELP WANTED

The five days of celebrations began over the weekend against a backdrop of national pride and optimism. The main carnival in Rio de Janeiro contributes $628 million to the country's economy and has added around 250,000 temporary jobs. The world-famous samba parade of exotically dressed "carnival queens" and bands generated $42.8 million in ticket sales, advertising and TV rights. That was Brazil Carnival.

I do not have access yet to the data on the revenues that Haiti Carnival generates and if someone has the data please share it with us. I can guarantee you that Jet Blue, Spirit Airlines, American Airlines, Air France, Delta, majors players to the Haitian Market Place will benefit greatly of this once a year event and local merchants alike. Check out the ticket prices for those dates!

4 years ago the world came to Haiti rescue and since then a lot of arguments and writings have ensued, either against or for the help that came by. This time I personally would like to invite you to Haiti and see the country in a different light. Remember that verse " A time to weep, and a time to laugh; A time to mourn and a time to dance" Unless you are helping in life and death issues or helping with the rebuilding of Haiti, for those exceptional 3 days, drop your beggar hat, feeling sorry thoughts, poorest country in the western hemisphere and all those up to no good expressions, pack a few costumes and masks. You can probably buy locally, check out the city of Jacmel for costumes and masks. Plan another trip this time not to rescue, not to broadcast death, desolation and get lost in the HAITI CARNIVAL 2014 and the dates are 2, 3, 4 March 2014 in the great city of Gonaives.

Carnival is the best of Haiti, music, culture, community - an event in which there are no spectators, and where everyone is a participant. Every year the Carnival provides an outlet to Haitians from all walks of life to participate in a fun filled event that allows them to put aside their daily worries. The Carnival is also an event where Haitians are given carte blanche to lose oneself and experiece happiness and joy! If you need help going down there Google Haiti Travel and take some friends with you and possibly put it on your resume and get credit as doing some philanthropic work!
